I Miss the CBCGL-South
When a prestigious biopharmaceutical company in San Diego offered me a job last September, I turned down the offer, only to be pursued more diligently by their offices. The second offer came only one month later, and this time I attributed the perseverant recruitment to a message from God. I accepted the job in November.
The company has many promising projects and my job description suits me well; I provide the technical expertise that drug development groups need to streamline the drug development process. I realized soon after moving to California, however, that my new home city does not fit me as well as my job; San Diego is essentially a desert. The city is very young with an average residential age of 36 to 45 in most communities. I do not see churches or cemeteries. Not long after I joined the company, I started talking to people to see if there were any churches. Initially my efforts were unsuccessful, which naturally made me miss CBCGL-south; in Massachusetts we had several retreats to the Waterville Valley of the White Mountains, we studied the Bible together, we discussed the interpretation of Biblical verses, we ate and sang together, etc. I had hoped to find a similar church full of people as warm and caring as those in CBCGL-south.
Finally, with my boss’s introduction, I started to go to a small church of no more than 30 people. The majority of Christians in this group were retired professors, engineers and other professionals. We rented Walker elementary school in Mira Mesa from 10 am- 1 pm every Sunday to worship and praise our God. This was the happiest time of my weekend; I felt my life being filled with meaning and my body being recharged with energy.
I have not yet found people like CBCGL-south in San Diego yet, since our Sunday worship of God is very formal. It is a bit different from our format here in CBCGL-south where we know each other like a big family. CBCGL-south is the most dynamic group among all churches I have ever attended. It is composed of different professionals with many talents. This group has members who can sing, direct, play the piano and violin, and design games in our retreats. The new web address at www.cbgcl-south.org provides the information I need when I miss our brothers and sisters here. If I were given the opportunity to contribute ideas on how to worship our God, I would adopt the same path we have at CBCGL-south.
